"In like a lion, out like a lamb” may be true for March
weather, but certainly isn’t true for WWR in March. Solid February training was followed by more
intense inside and outside training - followed by eating right & taking advantage of our Powerbar sponsorship - fuels us right! Teammates followed training regimens which included trail running,
swimming, Crossfit, trainers, spin classes, Expresso bikes, Sufferfest videos
and road and mountain bike rides in the rough March weather. You name it, WWR racers were at it. We’re gearing up to take a lion’s share of
podium spots!
To kick off the race season four WWR racers took on the Devils Backbone Mountain Cross Race in
Nelson County, Virginia. The 65 mile and
27 mile courses followed mountain streams on paved and unpaved roads in the
Blue Ridge Mountains. It was miles and
miles of challenging climbs and plunging descents. The longer course included over 7000 feet of
elevation gain, including a few 15-20% grades!
Kim Webster and Liz Jones took on the 27 mile course and took the top
two women’s class podium spots – finishing 1st and 2nd (13
racers) respectively. Factoring in the
entire field, Kim finished 5th overall out of 45 total racers and
Liz took 11th.
Outstanding! Andrew Webster and
Jason Temple battled it out in a field of 67 on the 65 mile course. Webb finished 8th overall and
Jason 10th – awesome finishes for a lung-busting race! Way to kick off the season!
